Ivan read law at Northumbria University, Newcastle, where he obtained his LL.B (Hons), and later completed the Bar Professional Training Course (BTC) at BPP University Law School.
Prior to commencing his pupillage, Ivan gained practical legal exposure through internships at Elaine Lau & Partners and Harold & Lam Partnership. During this time, he assisted in matters involving contractual disputes relating to housing and commercial agreements, where he developed his skills in legal research, drafting, and case analysis while gaining familiarity with the procedural aspects of legal practice.
Prior to commencing his pupillage, Ivan volunteered weekly with Citizens Advice Newcastle, assisting members of the public with a range of issues including family, debt, and contractual disputes. This experience allowed him to engage directly with members of the community and strengthened his ability to approach legal issues with both practical awareness and empathy.
Ivan is known for his diligence, curiosity, and readiness to take on new challenges. He approaches legal work with a thoughtful and solution-oriented mindset, recognising that effective practice requires both analytical discipline and a clear understanding of clients’ needs. He believes that the law plays an important role in maintaining order and protecting rights in an ever-changing society, and is committed to developing a principled and client-focused approach to practice.
Outside of practice, Ivan is a passionate drummer, a pet lover, and a sports enthusiast who enjoys badminton and swimming — pursuits which, he hopes, help him maintain both rhythm and balance in and outside the law.
